SARA OCÉAN
Biography
Sara Océan (born Unnur Sara Eldjárn's) a Montpellier based Icelandic vocalist, discovered her musical passion as a teenager when she unexpectedly began listening to French pop-singers from the 60’s and started imitating them without understanding a single word in French. Since 2017, she’s been pioneering the Icelandic music scene, honoring French legends such as Edith Piaf, Françoise Hardy, Serge Gainsbourg and Jacques Brel by organizing concerts and telling stories about them and their music.
Sara Océan is a virtuosic storyteller and her passion for French music combined with her Icelandic roots has resulted in Icelandic versions of hits like “Couleur Café” and “Les Champs-Elysées”, bringing her music even closer to her Icelandic listeners. Her second solo album, “Unnur Sara syngur Gainsbourg” (2018), has been streamed almost 2 million times on Spotify and received stellar reviews, as did her most recent album, “Bisous” (2021).
