Pétur Ben is an award winning composer and singer-songwriter hailing from Reykjavik.

His 2006 debut album Wine For My Weakness won the Icelandic Music Award for the Best Rock album.

Pétur’s second solo album God’s Lonely Man was released towards the end of 2012 to high acclaim and equally high positionings in end-of-year lists, despite only arriving a month before the end of the year.

It landed the renowned Icelandic Kraumur award and was nominated for best album at the Icelandic Music Awards.

Pétur's recent works for Ragnar Bragason’s movie Metalhead (2013) and TV show Prisoners (2017) both won the Edda Award in the category Best Film Score. Pétur is currently finishing the score for "The Valhalla Murders", the first Netflix co-produced TV show from Iceland, which will air in the end of 2019.

During the past decades, Pétur Ben's music ranges from delicate minimal folk songs to black metal. He has written music for chamber ensembles and choirs and is a founding member of KÓRUS, the notorious choir/collective of Reykjavik creatives.

Working as a producer, arranger and guitar player, his list of collaborators include Shahzad Ismaily, Nick Cave, Mugison, Oyama, Valdimar, Sóley, Amiina, Lay Low and Emiliana Torrini.

Pétur is currently working on his next solo album, collaborating with Helgi Jónsson, Emiliana Torrini and the Belgian baroque orchestra B.O.X., amongst other celestial beings.

The Line of Best Fit: "his records under his own name display the talent of a man whose gaze goes far wider than indie rock"

KEXP (Song of the day: Cold War Baby): "It’s hard not to feel like you’ve joined a life, if only for just over four minutes"

KEXP:

"His music is dense, dramatic, and startlingly honest."
