NEW SINGLE 'EGOTOPIA'
OUT OCTOBER 18!
Ceasetone is the brainchild of Hafsteinn Þráinsson, guitar player, composer, producer and collaborator of projects such as Axel Flóvent and Agent Fresco. Starting out in 2012 as an acoustic solo project but quickly grew in scope as the music stretched into a wider range of genres, from folky acoustic roots to ambient-electronic soundscapes, coloured by strings and bound together with powerful indie rock with some classical influences on top.
"They’re Icelandic purveyors of solemn, intense shoegaze with a string quartet, suggesting a new genre – chamber post-rock" – The Guardian
The first ever live performance was at Iceland Airwaves 2014. In 2015 the band won All Tomorrow‘s Parties festival’s “Unsigned Talent Competition”, hosted by the artist community, Bedroom Community. Additionally the band was invited to perform at ATP Iceland.
They were picked as one of Ja Ja Ja's 2016 bands to watch and have been stirring the music scene since their debut single release "Full Circle" in september 2015.
In march 2016 the band did their first tour overseas in the US ranging from Boston to Austin, playing at the SXSW festival, to Chicago.
Their debut album "Two Strangers" has been receiving praise all over for being one of 2016's best album, including quotes from renowned Icelandic critic Arnar Eggert Thoroddsen calling Ceasetone "the one to watch". It was then nominated as album of the year at the Icelandic Music Awards.
In 2017, Hafsteinn got back to the project's roots by releasing a home made acoustic EP called Stranded ever expanding the musical universe of Ceasetone with the signature mix of acoustic and electronic sounds.
An upcoming album is in the making and the first single 'Egotopia' was released on October 18, 2019 - with this one Ceasetone will strike back big times with an epic and rich sound.
KEXP: "A low, heavy electronic grumble began, and the songs grew into their full potential. Rolling textures confounded the room, and “Full Circle” took these soundscapes in an unexpectedly dance-able direction"
The Line Of Best Fit: "New song "Stranded" is taken from an upcoming EP of the same name and finds its feet through an emotional weight that washes through the entire song, recalling the more tender moments of Loney Dear or Bon Iver."
Reykjavík On Stage: "CeaseTone knocked my socks off combining folk, post-rock and progrock on stage as soon as the next to last song exploded in a glamorous way. Oh boy oh boy oh boy!"
The Au Review: "Ceasetone is an [...] incredibly focused band who performed twice during Sunaana [...], both times highlighting a penchant for building rich soundscapes and filling them with the tougher textures of indie-rock while Þráinsson’s dynamic voice tied it all together."
